Dr Maria J. Ribal graduated in Medicine in 1994, and followed this with a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery in 2002, both from the University of Barcelona. She carried out her residency in Urology at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, which she completed in 1999.
Over the course of a year between 2000 and 2001, she carried out a basic molecular research thanks to a research fellowship at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. She attended the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (USA) as a visiting clinician in 2002. She was a Laparoscopic Surgery Fellow at the University College London Hospital (UCLH) from June to December 2006.
She was a member of the Oncology Unit of the Department of Urology at the Puigvert Foundation (2002–2005). Since February 2005, she has been a member of the Department of Urology at the Hospital Clínic of the University of Barcelona.
Her main interests include major urologic-oncological surgery (primarily prostate, bladder and renal cancer), laparoscopic urological surgery (renal and prostate) and kidney transplantation, as well as the genetic research of urological tumours.
Winner of the Crystal Matula Award, granted by the European Association of Urology to the urologist aged under 40 with the best prospects in the European field, in recognition of her professional career and research into urological tumours.
Active member of the Spanish Association of Urology and the European Association of Urology.
Member of the European Guidelines on Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer group.
Member of the Laparoscopic Surgery group and NOTES/LESS of the ESUT.
Member of the executive committee of the Board of the European Association of Urology (EAU) which awards scholarships for the education of European urologists (EUSP).
Author of 55 international and 25 national publications, with 240 guest appearances at conferences for national and international congresses and courses.
